Brewhouse
This is where water is cooked together with
the selected special malts and "the soul of
the beer" the hops to become the wort.
(The selection of the malts and the recipe
already determines the
character of the beer)
Fermentation and maturation tanks
The wort arrives at the 38 fermentation and
maturation tanks and a bottom-fermented
yeast culture is added. After fermentation,
the beer matures in these tanks
until complete.
Filtration and quality assurance (laboratory)
During filtration, the last remaining impurities
are removed from the beer after storage. The
latest analytics are used to monitor every step
of the beer-making process in our internal
laboratory.
Bottling plants
Every hour up to 50,000 bottles are
cleaned, filled, capped, labelled and
packaged into the respective
containers in each of the two
modern bottling plants.
Logistics
Fully loaded trucks leave the brewery
daily to make sure that your favourite
"Köstritzer" is always available through
Germany. Meanwhile, Köstritzer
Schwarzbier is now also exported to
over 40 countries.
Historic Brewery
In 1908 the first brew was made in what was
the most modern Brewery in Thuringia at the
time. Today there are no more production
facilities in the landmarked buildings.
